Welcome to Wombat’s Café
“The Vienna coffee house is the perfect place if you want to be alone but need company.”
Austrian writer and journalist Alfred Polgar (1873-1955) best described what makes the typical Viennese Café so special.
This perfectly matches Wombat’s philosophy: to provide a safe, warm and friendly space where you can fully relax and enjoy unexpected encounters with open minded and cosmopolitan people at the same time.
Rooted in the privileged business of coffee-roasting, the Vienna coffeehouse became popular at the beginning of the 18th century. Nowadays there are far more than 1.000 coffeehouses in different shapes and sizes in Vienna. But – funfact: You rarely get a cup of decent coffee there!
It’s roasted, baby!
Great value for money, top-quality product from local providers, fair trade and sustainable – this is Wombat’s overall approach. Of course, this also applies to our coffee.
We know where our beans come from and we pay a fair price. Then these premium beans are roasted by our partners and coffee experts at Kaffee Campus Krems near Vienna.
Our milk is provided by Hannes Hiegersberger, an award-winning organic farmer, also based near Vienna.
Trained baristas add the magic touch and get the full flavor into your cup. Enjoy the extraordinary Wombat’s coffee experience!
PS: Café is the original spelling of the traditional Vienna Coffeehouse. It’s French (what else?). We here in Vienna have always been a cosmopolitan bunch of people.

WoMbAt’S RoAsT – BlEnD
Wombat’s Roast is composed of 50% Brazilian Arabica, 30% Indian Arabica and 20% Mexican Robusta.
Wombat’s Roast is a medium-strength coffee with a chocolatey and nutty flavour profile. The roast also has a hint of Robusta which leads to a beautiful crema when prepared as an espresso.
Our Brazillian Arabica is farmed by Fazenda Capim Branco, one of the oldest coffee estates in Brazil. A family business operating for more than 115 years, Capim Branco is famous for its specialty coffees.
Our Indian Arabica is also farmed in Brazil by Fazenda Capim Branco. It is originally from the Baba Budan Giri hills found in the District of Karnataka. This is where coffee was first grown in India and the beans are known for their unique flavour and aroma.
Our Robusta is from the Finca Fulda in Mexico. Founded in the 1980s by a German immigrant, this Finca quickly became ecologically and socially conscious. During a harvest, 450 people work there. There is a school on-site as well as a canteen that offers free meals to the workers. A river runs through the farm which irrigates the coffee plants and there is even an electricity producing turbine.
Wombat’s Roast can be bought in our café in 250g and 500g quantities.
